Next Generation Sevens appointed Official Coaching Partner of Rosslyn Park 7s

Next Generation Sevens is honoured to announce that it has been appointed as the Official Coaching Partner to the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens tournament.

Founded in 1939 the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens has grown to become the largest rugby tournament in the world, with more than 7,000 girls and boys aged 13-18 taking part each year.

Since 2011 the tournament has been sponsored by HSBC and the tournament attracts schools from across the United Kingdom and around the world to compete. The list of former players who have represented their school at Rosslyn Park before going on to represent their country includes former England XV’s captains Chris Robshaw, Lawrence Dallaglio and Phil de Glanville amongst a wide list of Rosslyn Park Sevens alumni.

Speaking of the partnership, Next Generation Sevens Head of Coaching Mike Friday was delighted saying “The whole ethos of Next Generation Sevens is to inspire the youngsters coming through and to give them the opportunity and pathway to develop and to hopefully one day see them become international players and potential future Olympians.

“There is no doubt that what the Team GB boys achieved in the summer has provided massive coverage for Sevens, and for many of the young players the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens provides their first experience of the sport. By partnering with the tournament we aim to work together to increase both the quality of the coaching and obviously the skills and experience of the players”.

Tournament Director Dom Shabbo was thrilled with the linkup, adding “The tournament is the biggest sevens event of its kind and what Next Generation Sevens are aiming to achieve perfectly aligns with both the ethos and the goals of what we do. Each year the tournament takes a step forward, and on the back of the Olympics there has been record interest in the 2017 tournament – and having the likes of the Next Generation Sevens coaches working alongside the schools and the players will only boost the quality of the  skills of the players and what they take from the tournament.”

To support the preparation for the tournament Next Generation Sevens is running two practical Coach CPD sessions aimed specifically at schools competing at the tournament, providing them with preparation, coaching and tournament specific tips to ensure they get the best out of their players. The first course takes place at Brighton College on Thursday 9th February, with the second at Abingdon School on Friday 10th February.
