Sevens Defence Course

Next Generation Sevens | Defence

Sevens Defence Course

The “Defence” course is a comprehensive experience for junior players to focus on their defensive game and to work with international coaches and players on all aspects of Sevens defence, both from set piece and open play.

At this course players will attend four training sessions, an defense-specific workshop of their choice and finish the day with the opportunity to play full contact matches.

Highlights include

Warm up like the professionals – complete the same warm up as international players before they play in a World Sevens Series.
Roles and responsibilities – create an efficient Sevens defensive line by understanding spacing, roles and responsibilities to stop an attack.
One on one – take your “one on one” tackling to the next level.
Decision making – recognise the decisions making and technical work required at a Sevens defensive breakdown.
Set plays – build a powerhouse scrum and a dynamic line out to disrupt and steal the opposition’s ball. Understand how to reduce attacking teams options and to maximise the chances of turnovers.
Defending set plays – understand how to defend from scrums and line outs and how to utilise different defensive systems.
Restarts – develop kick off receipt techniques to maintain possession and exert pressure.
Phases of play – learn how to defend in phase play and how to implement a devastating blitz defence.
Focused skills – participate in an attack-specific workshop – a chance for players to identify and develop areas of their defensive game.
Refereed games – play in refereed matches where players can put everything together and unleash their new skills and tactics.
