Sevens Development Course

Sevens Development Course

It’s not just rugby with seven players on each team!!! Playing Sevens at the highest standard requires a major change in tactics as well as a focus on a players core skills. Learn from the best and take some fresh ideas and a new perspective back to your school or club side.

The two day Development Course offers youngsters the chance to further improve their rugby skills in a sevens focused environment working with some of the best coaches in the world to better understand the role of individuals within a team and key attacking and defensive fundamentals.

Building on the skills covered in the hugely popular Foundation Courses the Development Course focuses in more detail on the practices and strategies required to be successful in Sevens.

Highlights include

Warm up like the professionals – complete the same warm up as international players before they play in a World Sevens Series
Set plays – build a powerhouse scrum and a dynamic line out to disrupt and steal the opposition’s ball. Understand how to reduce attacking teams options and to maximise the chances of turnovers.
– Attacking frameworks – create an efficient Sevens attacking framework using width, depth and compression to manipulate defences.
Defensive organisation – understand how as an individual and as a team defensive organisation strategies can be used to nullify opponents attacking threats.
One on one defence– take your “one on one” tackling to the next level.
Decision making – recognise the decisions making and technical work required at a Sevens defensive breakdown.
Restarts – develop kick off and kickoff receiving techniques to maintain possession and exert pressure.
Refereed matches – where players can put everything together and unleash their new skills and tactics.
The Olympic Sevens Pathway – an online module from The Athlete Factory where players can understand the strength and conditioning expectations of an Olympic Sevens player and what a junior player needs to do now to achieve it.

Who should attend? Boys of all abilities from u12, u13, u14 & u15 age groups.
Open to all players. Whilst prior participation in a Foundation Course is beneficial, it is not a pre-requisite to booking this course.
